Can You Remove Nail Varnish From Acrylics

How to Remove Acrylic Nails without Damage

Tools Required

Before embarking on this endeavor, ensure you have gathered the necessary tools to prevent any mishaps. You will need:

  • Nail file
  • Acetone
  • Cotton balls or pads
  • Tinfoil
  • Orangewood stick or cuticle pusher
  • (Optional) Buffer

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: File away the shine Using a coarse nail file, gently remove the top layer of shine from your acrylic nails. This will help the acetone penetrate more effectively in the next step.

Step 2: Soak in acetone Saturate cotton balls or pads with acetone and place them on each nail. Wrap a small piece of tinfoil around each soaked nail to create a secure seal and prevent evaporation of the acetone.

Step 3: Wait Allow the acetone to work its magic for 10-15 minutes, or longer if needed. The time required may vary depending on the thickness of your acrylic nails.

Step 4: Gently scrape Once the acrylic has started to soften, gently scrape it off using the orangewood stick or cuticle pusher. Avoid using excessive force to prevent damaging your natural nails.

Step 5: Repeat if necessary If there is any remaining acrylic, repeat steps 2-4 until all of the acrylic has been removed. Be patient, as this process can take time.

Step 6: Buff and moisturize (Optional) Once all the acrylic has been removed, buff your natural nails to smooth any imperfections and restore their natural shine. Apply moisturizer to hydrate and nourish your nails and cuticles.

Tips

  • Always use 100% acetone for best results.
  • If you experience any irritation or discomfort, remove the acetone immediately and rinse your hands with water.
  • Be cautious not to over-file your natural nails.
  • Avoid getting acetone on your skin for extended periods.
  • Allow your natural nails to rest and recover for a few days before applying new nail polish or treatments.
